Marion I Thomas of Crown Point, treasurer of the Lake Champlain Bridge Commission, reports Crown Point tolls for 1944 at 28,327, up from 23,683.75 in 1943, a gain of 4,643.25. Rouses Point tolls rose to 25,669.25 from 21,908.00, a gain of 3,761.25. Pvt. Harold J. Shumway 22, son of Mrs Marion Shumway of Au Sable Forks, was wounded in November 1944 near Metz after a German soldier disguised as an American threw a grenade. Tragic 2 Year Old Landry Dies From Scalding
A 2-year-old son of Kenneth and Mrs. Landry of Silver Lake died after scalding by boiling water spilled from a tea kettle. The accident occurred Monday morning while the boy sat beside the stove. his mother was burned trying to help. The child received care from Dr. Culver and was taken to Champlain Valley Hospital, where he died Tuesday morning. He is survived by his parents, grandparents Laban Landry and Wilkuma Nolyn Sr., and several aunts and uncles. Funeral services were held at Holy Name church with burial in Holy Name cemetery.

Lyon de Camp a lumberman and sportsman aged 67 died at his Old Forge home on January 3. He owned a 20 000 acre timber estate started by his ancestors in 1840 and led Gawanka Realty Thendara. He founded and led the Thendara Golf club the Adirondack region’s first golf course. He belonged to the Union League Club New York and the Adirondack League Club. Born in Boonton New Jersey he was a Stevens Institute graduate of 1900 and a World War I engineers captain.
