Rivas seeks death penalty for Texas Seven ringleader interview
Rivas, the ringleader of the Texas Seven, tells WFAA from jail that he wants the death sentence and will plead guilty. He recalls the December 13 Connally unit escape, the late capture after a trailer park tip, and the suicide of a seventh escapee. He reflects on regrets, saying his best friend and Mr Hawkins are dead and his friends are back in prison. He describes the jailbreak’s chaotic day, swapping vehicles at a Wal Mart in Kenedy, and the plan to live freely with new IDs and jobs, including the Oshman’s robbery in El Paso.
