A Greene County traffic fatality claims 2 year old Perry Dayhoff when a westbound car on Indiana 54 left the road at 9 35 a m struck a utility pole and overturned. Project 41 Fails to Cut Fatalities on US 41
Indiana state police report on Project 41 shows a year long effort on the Evansville Hammond corridor reducing personal injury accidents but not fatalities. From June 1968 to May 1969 total accidents rose to 1318 from 1281 the prior year while personal injury crashes fell to 445 from 493. Fatal accidents remained 38 both years with 50 deaths in 1967-68 and 51 in 1968-69. The program used 71 troopers with VASCAR speed timing units and included public outreach via pamphlets mats and media.
