Carter energy proposals suffer severe blows

Washington reports that House Ways and Means Committee scuttled Carter energy ideas including a gasoline tax and a tax on large cars. A separate energy subcommittee rejected federal natural gas controls and favored phased decontrol. Compromises set 1979 start for gas guzzler tax and lower mpg target, while producers face shifts in policy.

Kissinger Warns Against Communist Participation in Western Europe

Former secretary of state Henry Kissinger warned that allowing communist participation in Western European governments would wreck NATO and weaken the western alliance. He urged Europe not to equate communist victories with policy shifts and cautioned against undercutting anti communist resolve.

ISU Campus Hosts 40th Hoosier Boys State Week

Indiana State University prepares for the 40th Hoosier Boys State with 950 high school seniors arriving for registration at 9 a.m. BW Breedlove leads the program with William Jackson as associate director and Steven W. Sanger coordinating activities. Participants will be housed on campus and join a full slate of drills parties conventions and a statewide election to pick 1977 officers. The governor and Outstanding Citizen will advance to Boys Nation later this summer.
