Detroit June 3 The auto labor dispute focuses on employer liability under a supplemental jobless pay plan reportedly accepted by Ford in principle. Ford backs the basic idea of the CIO UAW guaranteed annual wage concept requiring employers to contribute to maintaining workers during layoffs.
Terre Haute leaders at the Chamber of Commerce dinner at Terre Haute House Mayflower Room outlined large community gains. Executive VP John K. Lamb cited a $9.5 million Allis Chalmers expansion, a $3.5 million jet fighter base, continued Terre Haute Ordnance Depot operations, and plans by American Brass for a $25 million aluminum plant plus a $90 million investment.
President Eisenhower flew in a two engine or four engine Aero Commander to a Gettysburg area farm, becoming the first president to ride in a small plane. The trip from Washington was a 30 minute flight with Lt. Col. Draper and Maj. John Mitchell aboard, part of Air Force procurement from Aero Design and Engineering.
In Bourges France on Thursday night a 27 year old wife of a local delivery man Mrs Pierre Tailibert gave birth to quadruplets all girls. The babies were placed in incubators at a Bourges clinic.

William G. Wood, once a lawyer and law school teacher aided to beat alcoholism, is jailed for drunkenness. Municipal Judge Hyman Feldman sets June 7 for third decision on his future. Associates propose raising a fund to send Wood to a hospital.
The Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce appeals to the sheriff police and prosecutor for action against a series of bomb terrors tied to May labor troubles. The notice cites a May spree and an oxygen plant breakdown on January 17 1954 threatening Yorktown’s south side as a Shriners train passed March 13 1955.
A mortuary attendant found a four months premature infant girl still alive Thursday night after being declared dead. The baby, born to Mrs. J. C. Dupree, was rushed to a hospital and placed in an air lock. By early today she was reported improved.
Taipei Formosa June 3 Communist artillery shelled two Nationalist islets in Amoy Bay. The Nationalist Defense Ministry reported no casualties and no retaliatory fire was noted.
Detroit details a model where a married Michigan worker with two children earning 2.10 dollars an hour would receive about 37 dollars weekly from the state for 26 weeks of layoff. The first four weeks are guaranteed at 65 percent of take home with Ford adding 12.40. For weeks five through twenty two the guarantee is 60 percent and Ford supplements 8.60 weekly.
Ford may provide weekly payments to laid-off workers to supplement state unemployment for up to 26 weeks, offering a semi-annual wage instead of a full 52 weeks. The plan would also limit supplementary pay to 65 percent of take-home pay for the first four weeks and reduce amounts for the following 22 weeks.
Washington June 3 senators questioned Air Force Capt. Raymond Wool about alleged falsified income tax returns. The IRS said it would follow through, as the Senate Investigations subcommittee probes graft in uniforms contracts.
Elwood Indiana June 3 John Melvin 87 of Elwood drowned as he fell face down in two feet of water in Duck Creek. He was found submerged and pronounced dead at the scene.
Gov. Goodwin Knight ordered a delay in the executions of Barbara Graham John A. Santo and Emmett R. Perkins to allow 11th hour petitions to the California Supreme Court. Attorney William Strong said he would present a plea based on the people vs. Cahan ruling and habeas corpus. The move came an hour before scheduled execution in a case involving the murder of an elderly widow during a robbery.
Crockett Arthur of Terre Haute filed a $25,000 damage suit in Vigo County Superior Court No 2 against Achelles Delegeannes of Detroit Michigan for injuries from a May 23 automobile crash at Eleventh street and Wabash avenue. The suit alleges Delegeannes ran a red light causing Arthur to hit two parked cars. Total damage to the four vehicles was about $3,150. A second suit by William P Thiel seeking $450 for a August 7 1954 Chestnut street North Thirteenth street crash was recorded Friday.
Four masked men robbed a Cleveland Trust Co branch office shortly after opening. They used stop watch precision and escaped with an estimated $60,000. No injuries reported. Local police launched a manhunt.
In Kalamazoo Michigan police pursue a lead about a two toned blue car seen near the scene where 8 year old Jeanie Singleton was found murdered. Services for the child were planned as investigators widen searches and examine footprints from the pine grove locale.
Ed Rickman of Jacinto, Nebr., spotted a driverless tractor circling a field and found a body in its path. He swerved his water truck through a fence and struck the tractor feet from the victim. Ray Perea, 57, Kimball, suffered head cuts after being knocked from the tractor and run over by the implement. he is recovering.
Alumni Senior Day events at Indiana State Teachers College begin with a 10 o'clock morning convocation in the Student Union auditorium presided by President Raleigh W. Holmstedt. A luncheon, reception, and baccalaureate service follow, with an 84th commencement later. featured performers include college seniors conducting the orchestra and a Book and Torch Day reenactment by F. Robert Bielski and E. C. Boyd.
Manila report cites J C Jain of the Times of India saying 11 American fliers imprisoned in Red China may be freed within a day. Jain arrived from Hong Kong and cited a usually reliable source. Four earlier pilots gained freedom last Tuesday, with the 11 remaining prisoners reportedly sentenced to 4 to 10 years for espionage.
Covington Indiana June 3 John Stevens 16 drowned when he stepped into a deep hole in the Wabash while trying to recover fishing bait. His body was found 150 feet downstream by searchers after companion Stephen Clark 15 summoned help. Stevens was son of Earl Joseph Stevens.
