Dallas Building Collapse Kills Three Injures Nine

Vigo County Board of Review Convenes June 6

Vigo County Board of Review will be in session for 40 days starting Monday June 6. The board meets in Room 7 of the courthouse to review personal tax schedules for businesses and corporations in Harrison township and Vigo county and to hear complaints about personal property assessments for 1955. Residents who have not mailed their tax schedules are urged to send them promptly so forms are on file during the session.

Subway Crash Injures 71 in New York Express Trains Collision

Two subway express trains carrying workers collided in New York this morning. At least 71 people were injured and 12 taken to hospitals. One train struck the rear of the other in the downtown bound rush.

Flowers Trial Opens Monday for Slaying of Former Wife

The first degree murder trial of Elmer J. Flowers, accused of killing his former wife Ione last October, will open Monday, June 6, in Vigo County Circuit Court before Judge Herbert R. Criss. A 60 name jury pool has been drawn and defense cites temporary insanity. Three local doctors will examine Flowers after the plea. The case arises from an alleged wait in a yard at 113 Harding Avenue where she was shot after being lured outside. authorities say Flowers bought the gun two weeks prior. Also on docket Friday at 9 a.m. is the second degree burglary trial of Charles Edward Morse.

Mistress slain by two Dobermans on Barnegat Bay beach

Two 60 pound Doberman pinschers mauled 64 year old Mrs. Winifred L Bacon of Pemberton, New Jersey to death on Barnegat Bay beach. Gerhard Loeling of Manasquin found the mutilated body as police reported the dogs prowled nearby. Doctors James Russo and Oliver were among responders.

Grandma Nannie Doss gets life for murder in Oklahoma

Tulsa, June 2. Grandma Nannie Doss, who poisoned four of five husbands, was sentenced to life. She pleaded guilty and will face possible prosecution in other states for murders in Kansas, North Carolina and Alabama. Doss admitted arsenic killings of four husbands and is suspected in nine other relative deaths.

Ford offers wage security plan to UAW in Detroit

The Detroit News reports Ford Motor Co offers a 55 million dollar job security plan accepting the principle of guaranteed annual wages for out of work workers. Youths Held on Federal Charges in Terre Haute Incident

Webb pleads innocent in wife killing arraignment

Auburn, Indiana. James E. Webb, 32, pleaded innocent at arraignment on voluntary manslaughter charges in the beating death of his wife Mary, 31, mother of five. Trial set for Sept. 22. bond remained $3,000. Mary Webb died May 16 at Parkview Memorial Hospital Fort Wayne from a ruptured stomach and brain hemorrhage.
