Elmer Trigger Burke, 38, was found guilty of first degree murder in a Manhattan bar slaying from 1952. An all male jury deliberated 50 minutes after a 23 day trial. sentencing awaits in two weeks, and the verdict carries a mandatory death penalty.
Paris premier Edgar Faure and his cabinet fixed January 2 as the election day for France's new National Assembly. Voters also enjoy a special paid holiday in France and Algeria. Campaigns begin December 13 as parties plan alliances and strategy amid a contest with Mendes-France and the Radical Socialists.
A London suburb crash between an electric passenger train and a standing freight train left twelve dead and over fifty injured. Eleven victims remained unidentified twelve hours later, including two young children. Rail workers and passengers battled flames and removed the injured as emergency crews fought to reach the wreck near Barnes Station.
Edward Leon Moore 22 of 520 South Fourth Street admitted to police he beat his 8 month old son Edward Leon Moore Jr prior to the child's death Friday evening. He was charged with second degree murder and remanded on $20 000 bond. Detectives reported 32 cuts and internal injuries and said Moore broke down after a lie detector test and confession. Moore also faced questions about abuse of his two and a half year old daughter and wife. Funeral services for the baby are set for Monday at J N Hickman & Son Funeral Home with burial at Woodlawn.
Indiana temperatures rose into the 50s and 60s with dense fog and drizzle. State Police reported no fatalities overnight as rain shifts to snow and a much colder Sunday and Monday bring a partly cloudy, colder outlook.

John Allen Kendrick, 58, once among the FBI’s ten most wanted, was arrested in a Loop hotel Friday night. A hardened gunman with priors including Alcatraz time, Kendrick faced charges tied to a 1954 Washington robbery shooting and a 1954 Leavenworth parole violation. He had been on the list since November 2.
The United States plans a 60 million dollar loan to Argentina to develop its steel industry. Economic adviser Raul Prebisch announced after talks with Henry F. Holland that the funds will complete a steel plant at San Nicolas in northern Buenos Aires Province near Rosario.
A 16 year old girl described as well groomed and a 17 year old boy escaped the Brazil Indiana police station after being arrested in a stolen car. The girl was quickly captured while the boy jumped a freight train and fled. The pair were identified as Alberta Patricia Savage and Dan Wade and claimed to have fled from Shawen Acres Children's Home in Dayton Ohio.
Greensburg Indiana reports the death of Arnold Mires aged 18 in a hunting accident. He reached for a shotgun in a car back seat and the firearm discharged striking him. The incident occurred Thursday evening as the man died from the wounds.

Bloomfield Indiana December 3 1958 a former Bloomfield veterinarian Dr Roland B Ament 38 is questioned again over the disappearance of 3 year old Ronnie Weitkamp. Sheriff James E Blakeley calls his tale unreliable while the search centers on the Westkamps home. Ament is jailed in Greene County on a Colorado charge of obtaining money by false pretenses.
An abandoned mother and her nine children, ages one to sixteen, were helped by the Travelers Aid Society after their trailer was abandoned on a highway near Shelbyville. The family, traveling from Colorado to Waycross, Ga, slept in their car after rain ruined their bedding. The father’s whereabouts are unknown, with a possibility he may return.
Cairo reports Egypt and Britain agreed on a Sudanese plebiscite to decide Sudan's future. The choice presents linking Upper Nile territory under a Britain Egypt co rule or full independence for Sudan.
Two Gary teenagers died when a car collided with a stalled pickup on U S 20 at Hammond city edge. Ethel Lee Spencer 16 was decapitated, Jean Alice Robinson 18 died later. Driver Clarence Howard 21 and William DeBerry 27 of Gary were critical. Four children in the truck were lightly injured. Frank Tunne 40 of Chicago helped warn onlookers.
P J McNeal and John Rig gers of Huntington Indiana were injured when two Erie railroad freight trains collided at a siding one mile east of Spencerville Ohio. They were taken to Memorial Hospital Lima with not too seriously injured reports said. Thirty one cars of an eastbound train derailed as the collision occurred with a shorter freight protruding from the siding.

The bodies of three men Howard Schnell and Ralph Klein both 30 of Dickinson and Ed Dowling 35 of Rapid City were found Friday on a ranch south of Rapid City. The plane had been missing since early Thursday night after Dowling radioed he was lost and running out of fuel.
West Berlin faces threatened halt of lifelines as East German Communists refuse to renew yearly shipping permits for barges supplying the western sector. The move could cut waterways traffic from West Germany to West Berlin starting January 1, amid broader shifts of sovereignty and traffic control.
Hundreds of Georgia Tech students march to Five Points and burn effigies of Gov. Marvin Griffin in protest of a segregation proposal that could bar the team from the Sugar Bowl on January 2. About 500 protesters gathered at the governor's mansion as Griffin urged action against interracial teams and nonsegregated spectators. Georgia Tech had a contract to play Pittsburgh in the Sugar Bowl with Bobby Grier a Negro on the squad, and Sugar Bowl officials said tickets may be sold to any spectators. President Blake Van Leer refused to comment on the telegram and stated he would honor contracts.
