Also notes a Vigilant Stage Driver scene where a sleeping driver fell from the stage and a passenger, a lady, rode exposed on the floor as horses veered toward the woods.
A performer, unable to control the horses during a show, cried for order while the animals halted. The lady jumped from the stage, calmed the leading horses, and the driver, revived from a dizzy spell, walked a mile to catch up. The employer discharged the driver and settled his dues.
A violent tornado struck Liberty County Georgia on the 25th. It prostrated trees and wrecked a cotton house and several Negro houses on Richard J. Arnold’s plantation. Six Negroes were killed and others wounded.
Yesterday afternoon the twin Steam Boat Advocate exploded on landing at Coeyman's wharf wrecking both after cabins and throwing debris. Ten or twelve people were injured including Mr. Brouck of Coxsackie Col Butler of Kinderhook brother of the attorney general master Perry of Hudson and Mr Caldwell. The blast was as loud as a six pounder.
Mr. John Eagan, proprietor, accidentally shot himself last evening in his shop. Reports say repeated robbery attempts at the store prompted him to load a pistol and place the ramrod in his mouth, causing fatal damage to his chin and upper head. On Saturday the 18th inst, two boys along the Hudson near Van Vleil's tavern Hyde Park found a small white wood box washed ashore. Believing it contained a prize they moved it to the woods and, upon returning with a companion to inspect, discovered the body of a very handsome newborn infant.
In Shutesbury on April 16 an infant boy, twenty months old and son of Zebina Pratt, wandered away from home. A long, cold night followed and by eight o'clock the next morning the child’s body was found more than a mile and a half from home, having perished from exposure. Reported by the Northampton Republican.

On Sunday between 10 and 11 A M near Donaldsonville a pirogue carrying the Poursine family and two children was struck by the steamer Belfast. Casimir Poursine, his brother William, a three year old child, and Mr A Landry drowned. Mrs Poursine, pregnant, survived thanks to her silk gown keeping her afloat. The four rowers clung to the pirogue mast.
