The steamship Natchez arrives in New Orleans with Havana news up to the fifteenth. It reports that prior to departure, Havana learned sixty three Jamaican abolitionist emissaries had landed on Cuba’s south coast. Thirty of these Black subjects of Queen Victoria were arrested and ordered to be shot, as Spanish authorities pursue the rest.
A minister waited after a sermon for an invitation home to dinner. When others left, the churchgoers vanished, leaving him hungry until he bravely asked an elderly man to host him. The man agreed, and the minister’s dinner was secured despite the initial disappointment.
