Treaty of Commerce and Navigation with Hanover 1840

A treaty between the United States and the King of Hanover, signed at Benin on May 20, 1840, establishes reciprocal liberty of commerce and navigation. It grants entry rights, residence, warehousing, and self-management for traders, with consular aid, equal duties, and protections for deserters and property of citizens across both realms. The pact remains in force twelve years, with renewal terms and ratification in Berlin.
