The Tarborough Press weekly rate is two dollars fifty cents per year paid in advance or three dollars per year due at year end. Less than a year costs twenty five cents per month. Advertisements under a square cost one dollar for the first insertion and twenty five cents for each continuation. Court orders and judicial ads are twenty five percent higher. Letters to the editor must be postpaid.

The Select Committee reports on debts of the Literary and Internal Improvement Boards from 1837 to present. They confirm bonds and securities are in order, no losses, and moneys received are promptly paid to the Treasurer or deposited. They note investments in Wilmington and Raleigh Railroad bonds totaling 85,000 with deadlines in 1845 and 1850 and document a deed in trust securing these and other debts.
The document details bonds and property secured by the Rail Company and Raleigh and Raleigh Road bonds endorsed by the State, noting investments of 32000 and 140000 in 1840 with 25300 bonds outstanding 1845 to 1852. The Galena Gazette argues it is a mistake for merchants to complain about hard times. Merchants can stay by their stoves and smoke cigars while thinking, without fear of disturbances from customers.
The tailors face trade loss as the shuttle and loom replace the thimble and goose. Messrs G Martin & Co introduce the English weaving method for coats and pantaloons in Philadelphia. An article is praised for comfort in daily wear as drawers and shirts have been woven there for months. Fire caused by water noted from the Portsmouth Journal.
A 30th ult. gale at Newcastle New Hampshire wrecked a grist mill. East wind and high tide cut land contact. a barrel of dime caused fire. About fifty bushels of grain burned. Meanwhile reports from Mexico note Tampico revolution and Santa Anna loyalists. Sixty Texan prisoners from San Antonio headed toward Saltillo, with John Cunningham dead from fever on the route.

Two mild earthquakes were distinctly felt in this town last night the 4th inst at about 9 oclock. The tremors were reported to be felt equally in Cincinnati at the same moment. A separate note describes a method to trap rats using a water-filled kettle covered with chaff or bran to lure them from their harbor.
