The Tarboroush Press by George Howard is weekly at two dollars forty cents per year if prepaid. Other terms include monthly rates for short periods, advance payment for distant residents, and ad charges starting at one dollar for a sign or first insertion with 25 cents per continuation. Court notices and judicial ads incur a 25 percent higher rate. Letters to the editor must be postpaid.
State of North Carolina in Edgecombe County during February Term of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions lists Peter Ko Knight and his wife Mary among the parties in a civil matter with other defendants.
A vintage advertisement touts Dr Phelps Compound Tomato Pills as entirely vegetable and a superior cathartic. It claims efficacy for blood impurities, liver and stomach issues, fevers, bilious diseases, and as a preventive for contagions, with endorsements from physicians across the United States and travel benefits for seamen and travelers.
The act authorizes detailed appropriations for the 1841 naval service, including pay for officers and sailors two million three hundred thirty-five thousand dollars, provisions, repairs, and armament totaling millions, yard improvements at Portsmouth Charlestown Brooklyn Philadelphia Washington Gosport Pensacola and expenses for materials, transport, clothing, barracks, medical supplies, and various contingencies. It also funds experiments on propulsion by horizontal wheels and expenses for the Explorer expedition collections.
An act appropriates twenty two thousand dollars for the temporary support of destitute Kickapoo Indians and to defray the cost of removing and subsisting Swan Creek and Black River Indians of Michigan. It directs adjustment of accounts with Clements Bryan and Company arising from a Cherokee subsistence contract of 1838 and to deduct profits from the later contract, with any balance due paid from unappropriated treasury funds. Government appropriations to extinguish Indian title total several thousand dollars for treaties with Wyandot Wyaui du Wyandots Muskees Sac and Ox Winnebago Sioux and Miami tribes. Funds cover treaty expenses in Ohio Michigan Iowa and for amendments approved March 1841 with the Winnebago and Sioux.
An act provides that nothing in the act approved May 13, 1800 or any prior amendment shall be deemed to apply to the courts of the United States then holden or to be holden, as amended by the act passed July 20, 1840, governing judicial procedures.
