The Tarborough Press lists weekly publication in To Dollars and Fifty Cente per year in advance or Three Dollars after one year. Shorter periods are twenty five cents per month with advance payment for distant subscribers. Advertisements up to a square cost one dollar for the first insertion, with twenty five cents each continuation. Court orders and judicial ads are twenty five percent higher.
Court records from the February term list Puer FE Knight and wife Mary among others in a case heard by the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions.
An advertisement extols Dr Phelps Compound Tomato Pills as a fully vegetable medicine for blood impurities and bilious diseases. It claims usefulness as a substitute for calomel, a cathartic in fevers, and a preventive against contagions in hot climates. It touts benefits for digestion, nervous and rheumatic ailments and notes endorsements from physicians in various regions.
U S Congress appropriates funds for the Military Academy for 1841 covering pay, subsistence, forage, clothing, and building repairs. Allocations include topiary figures across departments and fortifications, plus engineering and surveying expenses. Fortifications at several sites receive substantial sums with specific outlays for sea walls and repairs. Approved March 3, 1841.
The act appropriates unspent treasury funds for fortifications in 1841. It allocates thirty-five thousand dollars for repairs to Fort Independence and Castle Island sea-wall and forty-five thousand dollars for Fort Warren repairs and related work.

The Wake Superior Court term heard the William B. Gully murder indictment for his mother-in-law, a 70 year old found dying with marks suggesting violence. Evidence was circumstantial and after an able defense by Saunders and State by McQueen, the jury acquitted Gully following a clear judge's charge.
Madison John son, a youth scarcely of age, convicted of murder at the Fall Term of the Superior Court, was sentenced to death on Saturday evening by Judge Settle. He is to be executed on Friday the 30th inst. He listened to the court’s judgment with composure or indifference.
Aaron Shearis of Granville was committed to the city jail on Sunday charged with stabbing Jeremiah Estes at Fish Dam the day before. Estes was alive when the informant left, but his life was despaired of.
One hundred shares of Bank of the State of North Carolina stock sold at auction last week for 106 dollars per share. In Virginia, Robert Wier about 13 years old was killed instantly at Righmond when a windlass handle struck him in the temple while obtaining water.
John W. Stevens, postmaster at Abingdon Virginia, was arrested for plundering the post office and confined in Wythe County Jail. The accused has long held a high character, but the alleged crime caused a local uproar. His daughter is reportedly deranged.
Curits jokes about a North farmer who reportedly cut his apple orchard to stop apples from becoming cider and whiskey. The piece riffs on a medieval tale of a crying girl baking in an oven who fears marriage and a pretty baby might climb into an oven and burn.
Reports from Wilmington recount a mutiny aboard the steamboat Wilmington on the 21st while en route to Charleston. The crew mutineers were restrained by Captain Thomas Marshal and the second engineer Mr. Graham. The accused were arrested and given bail for court appearance.
