Community leaders in Taos promote a town cleanup during Memorial Day week with support from the Chamber of Commerce, schools, and youth groups. Kit Carson Memorial State Park will follow the flag-raising with a ceremony in the cemetery scheduled for 11 a.m. Local officials and veterans groups are expected to attend to honor the occasion.

GOP Precinct Sessions Called Across Taos County

Republican precinct meetings set for 7 p m Saturday in Taos County as part of the path to the July national nominating convention. Delegates to the county convention will be chosen June 8 and those to the state convention June 22. Taos Precinct No 1 meets in the county courthouse. other locations to be posted. Taos County to send 27 delegates to the state convention, said Precinct 1 chair Olivia Gonzales.

Court rules coop officers control reservoir rights

In a continued court session, Judge McIntosh held that cooperative members do not automatically gain property rights. Only certain officers or employees may operate the reservoir and irrigation water distribution. A five to six member group will likely be authorized to manage the facility under a temporary restraining order. The ruling drew little opposition from the association and a silent audience of members. The judge warned participants from actions that could trigger further clashes, referencing the May confrontation.

Water worries drive Taos tour and future dams

Assistant Secretary of Agriculture Jota Baker led an 18 hour Taos County visit focusing on water shortages and the need for reservoirs and dams. Local leaders urged action on 1940s water compacts, while studies on retention facilities proceed and discussions with legislators continue. The trip ended with visits to a flood control site and a wood products cooperative before a large Albuquerque dinner.

Special Meeting Called for Vets in Taos County

A special meeting will be held Saturday in the Taos County Courthouse for representatives to the Taos County United Veterans' Council. The session aims to organize for a May 26 trip to Albuquerque where the statewide United Veterans Council will discuss the $2,000 veterans' exemption act amid opposition from Veterans for Equalization of Taxes. The Albuquerque gathering will be at the Carlisle-Bennett American Legion Post No. 13 at 2 pm.
