Memorial to John Collier Founder of Indian Affairs

John Collier, memorialized for founding ethnic and Indian rights work, served as advisor to the United Nations in 1946 and led American Indian Defense Association. His life spanned leadership in social reform, education, and anthropology, with later academic posts and a long taos residence. Surviving are Grace Volk Collier, three sons, eleven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Secretary's Taos tour highlights aid, jobs, and water pleas

Assistant Secretary of Agriculture John Baker led a three day southern Colorado and northern New Mexico visit focusing on food stamp program praise and requests for more federal funds and water share. He toured Taos Friday and Saturday meeting distributors and residents, heard a call to rename the tour to reflect bringing aid, and spoke at a TAP dinner presenting a Spanish language aid pamphlet.

Incumbent Ted Ortiz won a second two year term on the Kit Carson Electric Cooperative Board of Directors in Taos. Ortiz narrowly defeated Ray Mondragon by 461 to 417 votes, maintaining the seat with a slim margin.
