Questa School Board selects Romero as new superintendent

The Questa School Board appointed John J. Romero as superintendent, effective July 1, after voting unanimously at a May 3 meeting. Romero, curriculum coordinator since 1987, aims to continue current programs and implement a family grouping plan for sixth to eighth grades with two-teacher core classes.

At the school event celebrants paid one dollar to jump on a trampoline for about three minutes. Other attractions included the Super- Mex Dart Throw and the sponge throw. The Questa High School stage band provided the music.

Drunk driver seeks release for treatment in court

Taos Pueblo approves ordinance for expanded bingo plan

Taos Pueblo tribal council passes a measure authorizing the governor and war chief to locate an expanded bingo facility on the reservation and legalizes an existing pull-tab operation. The ordinance, cited by tribal secretary Nelson Cordova, will go to the Bureau of Indian Affairs for review.

Pickup Hits 11YearOld Girl On State Road 577 Near Doa Montes

Crystal Padilla, 11, of Doa Montes is in St Vincent's Hospital Santa Fe with serious head injuries after being struck by a westbound pickup as she entered State Road 577 from a driveway. The crash occurred about 7:30 p.m. Monday May 7. Witnesses say the driver could not see her due to sun glare. speed factors are disputed by her mother and locals report prior complaints to police.

Acequias Deny Taos Planner for State Water Board

Taos County planner David Fernandez asked Gov. Garvey Carruthers to add an acequia official to a 10 member board selecting a new state water engineer to replace Steve Reynolds who died last week. Carruthers said the board is complete and no additions will be made. A separate Taos meeting about a Nuclear Materials Research and Development Laboratory at Los Alamos is set for May 12 at Taos Junior High School with DOE officials and concerned citizens.
