Wagon Journey to Red River Ends in 21 Days

Buddy Bailey purchases a wagon and two mules from Hendrix Springfield of Springtown Texas and delivers them to Red River. Springfield and his brother Curtis leave Springtown April 7 and travel 612 miles in 21 days with Fred Whitbeck joining in Amarillo. Kale the mule is fed at left as Nite Bailey cares for the team.

Third moly spill shuts down mill in Questa

Police raid tunnel uncovers marijuana plants in New Mexico

Taos County deputies seized 310 marijuana plants from four tunnels beneath a chicken coop near El Rito. Investigators, led by Fabian Mascarefias and aided by about 24 officers including DA Sammy Pacheco, found plants grown under Gro-Lites and several seed bags in a nearby trailer. Paul Kunkel was arrested for questioning. another suspect remained unnamed with an arrest warrant.

Consultant ponders new jail for Taos County

DiStefano and Associates of Houston and Rivera Beach were approved to study jail needs for Taos County. The plan envisions a 75 bed facility funded by a property tax increase and general obligation bonds if voters approve. The firm will work on a needs assessment and budget before seeking architectural bids. Local commissioner Red Trujillo expressed tax concerns.
