Mayor Suffered Stroke Delays In Taos Hospitalization

Taos Mayor Phil Lovato, 74, was in critical condition at St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe after a major stroke confirmed Tuesday March 25. He had been admitted Monday to Holy Cross Hospital with weakness and flu like symptoms and was transferred to Santa Fe for neurologist evaluation. Lovato, re-elected to a third term March 4, attributed illness to campaign strains and planned a post election vacation. His two sons were en route, and friends noted he spent much of the week in bed after a brief Denver trip to visit a son.
