Max Finstein, 68, founder of New Buffalo Garter in the 1980s, dies in a crash near Tonopah, Nevada while en route to California. Harvey Mudd, traveling with him, reports Finstein was thrown from the truck. a heart attack may have contributed. Memorials planned in Santa Fe and New Buffalo. Finstein known as a poet and life lover who inspired many in the commune.

Child Struck By Pickup In Taos Area Injury Report
A five year old boy from Taos suffered a possible fractured skull and scratches after being struck by a pickup early March 17. State Police identified the driver as Edmundo Vissaraga, 66, of El Prado who did not report injuries. The collision occurred near the B and T Feed Store in El Prado.
