Romero case awaits hearing in Taos district court

The case of former Taos Junior High teacher Trankie Romero waits for a district court hearing before advancing to the State Board of Education. District Judge will rule on a writ seeking to disqualify a state attorney general officer hearing Romero’s appeal. The board’s hearing officer is Mary Ann Hughes. The petition argues potential conflict if the matter goes to the Court of Appeals where the AG’s office would represent the board. Romero was fired last year over charges of criminal sexual contact with a minor. No district court date has been set for the hearing.
