State commission cuts Mountain Bell rate hike in New Mexico

The State Corporation Commission approved a $27.6 million rate increase for Mountain Bell, far below the company’s requested $46.8 million. The 9.64 percent return is challenged as insufficient for rising costs with a hearing set July 6 in Santa Fe to gauge impact on the 450,000 customers and 700,000 phones. Mountain Bell may seek reconsideration or appeal the decision.
