First physically challenged air recon observer trains in USFS history
Taos native Marfa Valerio, 24, becomes the first physically disabled person to be trained as an air recon observer for the U.S. Forest Service. The effort, led by Carson National Forest personnel, involved a new training program, coordination with pilots, and a first flight in a Cessna 182 at Taos Regional Airport amid optimism and logistical challenges.
