Taos Soaring Fiesta Draws 33 Planes and Enthusiasts
Dentists and pilots from Texas and other states converge at Taos Municipal Airport for the Third Annual Taos Soaring Fiesta from June 12 to 20. James Walker of Colorado Springs earned a diamond badge in a Sweitzer 1 26, a rare high altitude feat, as Taos builds a local soaring club and towplane capability.

Taos youths shine at Los Alamos Junior Olympics
Taos area youths earned multiple top finishes at the Los Alamos Junior Olympics on Saturday. Juan Pacheco, 12, placed second in the half mile with 2 30. Pat Pacheco, 13, claimed first in the 220 yard dash at 27.5, first in the 440 yard dash in 59.8, and first in the long jump at 16 feet 3 inches. Manuel Pacheco, 16, qualified for state in javelin, finished second in the 440 yard dash in 53.7, and took thirds in the 220 yard dash at 24.0 and the 100 yard dash at 10.9. Paul Concha of Taos Pueblo added a second in the mile with 5:00.05.

Local coaches hired for Taos summer program
Taos school board approves seven athletic coaches for the 1976 summer recreation program to run June 14 through July 29. Leland Abreu will serve as program director and coach. other hires include James Abreu Janet Conty Benito Gallegos Eddie Gutierrez Ernie Lopez Carlos Montoya and Kathy Stoudt. Juan Aragon named overseer, and Ne w Mexico Activities Association amended rules to permit summer practice.

Taos And Questa Youth Attend Boys State in Roswell
Five Taos area youths and one from Questa returned from a week of American Legion Boys State activities in Roswell. Taos participants included Arthur Abreu Mark Barela Danny Gonzales Dave Randalls and Ronnie Romo Partici pating from Questa was Bobby Ortega son of Questa Mayor Max Ortega. Counselors for the Taos County delegation were Josue Lopez and Pete Lahd of Penasco. The events were June 6 to 12 at the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell.

Taos Police Department and Police Assisting Youth sponsor a teen-age dance Friday June 18 at Taos Middle School Gym to raise funds for Taos Little League. The New Breed will perform as the local band. Doors open one PM to midnight with supervision. admission is 1.50 per person.
