Child support tax intercept deadline nears in New Mexico
The New Mexico Human Services Department offers a tax intercept program to help single parents collect past-due child support. Applications are due July 14. The program reports delinquent parents to the IRS and the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department, intercepts tax refunds, and disburses funds to the Child Support Enforcement Division for custodial parents. Last year the program collected over $4 million, with at least $1 million more than the prior year, aiding those owed support and reimbursing the state when public assistance is involved.
