Canceled State ends Sangre de Cristo funding push
Sangre de Cristo Community Mental Health Services faces loss of a 2.3 million dollar yearly grant after a month long state review. CEO Carlos Miera disputes the charges, saying they can be disproved as six New Mexico counties including Taos rely on 170 active Taos cases and 80 on medications with 45 crisis calls in a month. The Health and Environment Department will seek new proposals to replace the agency by June 30.

Taos police say 15 year old Eric Duran is charged with aggravated battery after stabbing 16 year old Tim Casias on May 31 at Taos Junior High following an argument over a girlfriend. Casias was treated at Holy Cross Hospital. Witnesses report Duran pulled a four inch folding Explorer knife from his pants and struck Casias in the chest. Duran was later detained at the juvenile facility and refused to answer questions without an attorney.
