Youth Faces Charges After Flag Incident
Danny Montoya an 18 year old of Taos is charged with insulting the flag after tearing down an American flag from a casto shop on Kit Carson Street Memorial Day. District Attorney George Reynolds testified he saw Montoya and two companions, who appeared high, flee as officers caught them. Montoya pleads not guilty with bond set at 500 dollars. Two others fined 20 dollars each for drunken and disorderly conduct. Peace Justice Rivera was disqualified. another justice has not been selected.

Two Injured In Wreck On River Bridge
On May 29 at about 11 45 pm a collision on the Arroyo Hondo bridge left two men hospitalized. Bobby Muller of Fort Worth driver of the semi suffered severe scalp lacerations. Phillip Cordova of Arroyo Seco driver of the pickup sustained internal injuries. Cordova allegedly pulled onto the highway in the path of the semi. Muller swerved and went over the bridge taking the pickup with him. State police say Cordova has been charged with reckless driving.

Sawdust Pile Fire At Pat Creek Heavily Damages Site
A 200 foot diameter sawdust pile above the Pat Creek mill pond caught fire at 3 p.m. Monday. Sparks from a nearby waste burner and high winds fueled spread, creating a blaze larger than a prior wood scrap fire. Taos Volunteer Fire Department controlled the flames, with a guard kept over the pile through Tuesday.
