Jury Trial Request For J P Studied
The State Supreme Court heard a bid for a jury trial for suspended Taos justice of the peace Jose E Flores. Stephan A Mitchell argued Flores is entitled to a jury on charges, while District Judge Fred Federici and District Attorney George Reynolds contended the case is not eligible for a jury trial. Mitchell said the forfeiture of office rightfully limits Flores, whose term runs through year end.

City Bowling Tourney Set
Taos County Bowling Association schedules its City Championship at Taos Lanes over Friday to Sunday nights. Eight teams compete in a team event with singles doubles and all events. Entry fee is 3.25 per player. Men’s league resumes in June with mixed and summer leagues starting June 4 June 8 respectively.

Co-Op Seeks Loan For 26 Mile Transmission Build
Engineers estimate the project at 685 350 with 32 531 available from prior loans reducing the requested loan to 652 819. The 26 mile transmission line would cost 221 1600 and 1000 for other items. Prior improvements include a line into Tres Piedras aiding mines and expanding service to Questa and west of the mountains. Transmission lines carry power from source to distribution to users.

San Juan-Chama project eyed to divert Rocky water
The plan would move water from the Rockies across the Continental Divide to increase downriver salinity and supply Albuquerque with 50 000 acre feet annually. The $86 million San Juan-Chama project would serve agricultural industrial and domestic needs and be repaid by water users. A separate $135 million Navajo Reservation irrigation system is proposed with most costs paid by the government under an 1868 treaty. The Senate has already approved a similar bill.
