Taos Fiesta Weekend Largely Quiet Despite Several Arrests

Taos police report a busy fiestas weekend with two fights leading to arrests, a third disrupted before officers arrived, and four others taken on warrants. One serious motorcycle crash on Cantel Hill injured 41 year old Jacob Montoya who was not wearing a helmet and may have been drinking. Chief Neil Cutan praised the event as well organized and thanked State Police and tribal officers, with 10 volunteer New Mexico Mounted Patrol members aiding. Volunteers urged via Lt. Taos Volunteer Fire Dept Lifts Burn Ban Permits Return

Effective today July 28 the Taos District will resume open burning permits issued by the Taos Fire Department. Permits valid for up to two weeks with possible extension if weather remains favorable. Follow permit conditions to keep the community safe and contact other districts to confirm local burning rules.

Carson Forest lifts Stage II fire restrictions

The Carson National Forest has lifted Stage II fire restrictions across the forest due to more moisture cooler temperatures and approaching monsoon season. Tres Piedras and Canjilén Ranger Districts remain under Stage I restrictions with permits required for fires. Fire safety remains essential. ensure fires are fully dead with ample water.

Taos County DWI Arrests and Indictments Highlight July

Information from the Eighth Judicial District Attorney reports multiple DWI events in Taos County. Mary Miera 41 of Ranchos de Taos faces aggravated DWI with BAC 0.27. Arthur Sanchez 55 of Questa cited for DWI with BAC 0.19. Jesus Muñoz 54 of Taos indicted on aggravated DWI and related charges. Jaime Romero 35 of Taos charged with disorderly conduct. Pablo Medina 25 pleaded guilty to second offense aggravated DWI and license issues.

Taos Police Blotter A Week of Thefts Disturbances and Deaths

A Taos blotter item recounts a range of incidents from July 22 to July 25 including a freezer stolen from a residence after a fence was damaged, a patrol unit backed into by a car, a DWI arrest, noise complaints at the plaza during Fiestas, parking violations, a cash drawer theft of 530 dollars, a door to door drug solicitation, disorderly conduct at the plaza leading to juvenile referral, injuries at Holy Cross Hospital, large gatherings at local inns and post office, and vandalism. Two people are dead after gunshots at Vigil's Trailer Park. Betsy Phillips reports.

Meth lab trial delayed again in Taos County case
