Representative Tom Udall of New Mexico convened a statewide meeting in Rio Rancho as part of a nationwide series to discuss the National Environmental Policy Act and its impact on oil industry interests and ranchers.
The Carson National Forest notes fire restrictions July 18 to 24 2005 with Stage II lifted and Stage I in place for Jicarilla Questa and Camino Real ranger districts. Taos County commissioners approve final subdivision regulations unveiled June 20, tying their effective date to a county moratorium expiry on September 1. The moratorium, extended to align with the new rules, was imposed in February to ease workload on a Planning Department stretched by advance filings. The task force, meeting weekly since early 2023, finalized an inch-thick draft after a late July hearing where a developer proposed sharing a single well for up to 10 homes marketed as affordable.
NASA mission specialists spent five days training above Taos Pueblo aiming to locate future water resources in the county. Geology and field observations tied the astronauts to the local landscape and culture, with notes comparing Taos to tougher areas like Big Bend.
Dr. Muehlberger leads a five day field geology training session for fourteen trainees at Pueblo. The program, expanding from four to five days, uses gravimeter gear and rock analysis to teach astronauts to recognize geological features for lunar and planetary studies.
Taos Town Council member Gene Sanchez announced his bid for Taos mayor promising an “interesting seven months.” He criticized current leadership saying land use and growth require planning, referenced Vision 20/20, questioned the pool contract, and urged council members elected on the issues. He urged pro business stance and keeping big corporations out of Taos.

Cornelia de Bruin won first for flu vaccine story. other top honors include Best Ad Idea black and white and Best Section or Edition Dedicated to Sales Promotion.
