Frésquez Convicted of Murder Faces Rape Charge

A Colfax county jury found Richard Sabino Frésquez guilty of first degree murder in the July 2002 death of LeAnne Martinez and sentenced him to life plus six years. He was also found guilty of tampering with evidence and unlawful taking of a motor vehicle. He was found not guilty on the rape charge. He is eligible for parole in 36 years.

Democratic caucus enlists 29945 absentee ballots in Taos County

The Taos News reports New Mexico Democratic Party sent 29945 absentee ballots for the Feb 3 Presidential Preference Caucus in Taos County with 14269 returned by Feb 26. Voters without requests may still vote Feb 3 at six Taos polling places. Provisional ballots protect those directed to wrong sites or denied requests, with authenticity checked after the election. 505-830-3650 800-624-2457.

Fire destroys Dane Bigbee building in Jan fire

Firefighters recovering Big Bees may be total loss as roof removal begins. A Jan 16 blaze damaged the upper structure beyond occupancy and a structural engineer will supervise the roof dismantling. Fire Chief Leroy Gonzales says the building is likely a total loss while injured firefighters recover. Administrative Chief Jim Jambro was released from hospital and headed back to the scene.
