Escaped Washington convict arrested in Taos

Taos State Police capture Robert Ray Casey 23 of Olympia Washington after a tip. He was found in a stolen pickup at Cozart's service station. Casey, serving a 10 year burglary sentence, is jailed in Taos and faces extradition to Colorado or Washington after a suspected move to a half way house. A separate Taos meeting will discuss plant size and waste treatment plans with a public session planned for March.

Valle de los Ranchos Water Board seeks new member

A six year seat on the Valle de los Ranchos Water and Sanitation District board is open as Robert Daigh’s term ends in March. Filing at the County Clerk’s office starts January 30, with election set for March 3 in Ranchos de Taos. All district voters can apply or vote. Daigh will not seek re election. Delfino Torrez is current chairman, Daigh is vice chairman, and Paul O Valerio is secretary.

James rejoins Taos Volunteer Fire Department as firefighter

James George rejoined the Taos Volunteer Fire Department as one of four professional firemen hired by the Town of Taos. He replaces Bill Ryan who resigned to join Colomex Oil and Gas Co. James had left TVFD months earlier to work for Taos Gravel Products.

Trucker faces 340000 suit over fatal crash in district court

Max Baca Maggie Gutierrez and Corrine Baca Espinoza sue Centennial Development Corp and driver Ed Hyatt in district court for 340000 total damages claiming Hyatt left of center on State Road 48 and struck a pickup carrying three men on June 12. Hyatt cited for leaving scene failure to report accident careless driving and driving left of center. Plaintiffs seek 100000 damages for loss of income and 50000 punitive damages. jury trial requested.

Juveniles Charged in Fence Vandalism Incident

Two youths face charges after a New Year’s Eve vandalism incident at Tus High School. Alan Johnson, owner of Mono Fence, witnessed the Dec 31 damage to a chain link fence. repairs were quick, but security remains a concern. Police are still investigating and no arrests had been announced as of Tuesday.
