This week the annual Local Color show spotlights inventive folk from the Tags art scene featured in the regular Tempo column. The exhibit showcases creative work by artists familiar to Tempo readers.
Angel Fire reports 3 inches in past 24 hours with 45 inch base and 7 lifts operating. Enchanted Forest shows 12 inches and 30 to 38 inch depths across 32 km of trails. Red River has 11 inches with 42 to 50 inch depths and 6 lifts. Taos Ski Valley records 12 inches with 80 inch midway depth and 12 lifts. Five obituaries note deaths of Manuel C. Taos residents including Rita Sutcliffe and Bruce Petch were in Southern India when the deadly tsunami struck the Kerala coast on Christmas. Sutcliffe, at the M A Math hub near Kollam, described a crowded area with 10,000 to 15,000 visitors and 1,000 international guests, and said she seeks to help survivors through art and the M A Trust charitable network.
Taos County Jail Administrator Charlene Tsoodle Marcus returns to work at 10 a.m. Monday January 10 following a January 3 administrative hearing ruling. County commissioners vote 4 to 1 not to suspend her for three days. Commissioner Nicklas Jaramillo opposed. The hearing followed accusations of inmate funds mismanagement at the 72 hour detention center and possible thefts. Marcus’s attorney says the county and manager should improve jail financial controls.
Taos County commissioners vote to renew a contract with Veealya Adams, president of New Mexico Caninu Rescue and Safeguard Inc., to continue animal sheltering through June 30, 2006. Adams operates Lues Kennels in Ranchos de Taos and coordinates cat and dog housing with board members at a nearby cattery. Adams began providing services after the Humane Society of Taos County ended its county contract last summer.
Taos and Picuris pueblos installed new leadership last week led by Ruben A. Romero as Taos governor and David G. Gomez as lieutenant governor. Lawrence T. Lujan is wibal secretary, Michael Martinez first sheriff, Jeffrey Romanello second sheriff, with Ben John Romero as head fiscal and Santiago Suazo as lieutenant fiscal.
