Authorities noted a very icy section caused the crash and pileups. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene with numerous vehicles at the bottom of the curve and residents rushing to help amid the winter conditions.
Taos Municipal Judge Joe Montoya was arrested Sunday evening and charged with DWI after a one car crash on SR 3 north of Overland Sheepskin Co. His truck crossed lanes, hit the guardrail, and skidded 280 feet. He failed field sobriety and breathalyzer tests. His wife Dorothy was with him. she was treated and released. Arraignment planned for Tuesday with Magistrate Judge Walter Herrera. case assigned to Magistrate Judge Betty Gonzales after vacation return January 7.
Taos Gravel head Louis Tafoya says slowdowns by the town on several street projects halted progress on Dolan Santistevan and other repairs. Mayor Santistevan and engineer Maestas dispute maintenance duties while Taos Gravel pledges to keep streets clear. Cordova questions bidding process as discussions continue.
