Ojo cemetery seeks free dirt for expansion

St Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Ojo Caliente aims to give away several thousand cubic yards of dirt from a one acre hillside across from the post office. Caretaker Patrick Vigil says dirt will flatten the hillside to expand the cemetery and some dirt will stabilize the arroyo. Estimated project cost could exceed 250000 if contracted. Call Vigil or Gutiérrez to arrange removal. donations welcomed via St Mary’s Cemetery Fund.

Taos Chanukah event hosted by Chabad at Taos Auditorium

The Taos Chabad hosts a candle lighting event at the Taos Community Auditorium on Thursday December 17. The center candle will be used to light the others and wax will burn for several hours.

SOMOS launches new blog for writers and members

The Society of the Muse of the Southwest unveils a new SOMOS blog for poets and writers to submit works and share links while staying informed on activities. Zia Award Honors New Mexican Woman Writer

The Zia Award will honor an outstanding New Mexican woman writer for fiction at the 2010 conference in Albuquerque on April 16 and 17. Submissions may be made by the author or a representative, with a $10 fee and a postmark deadline of January 11, 2010. NMPW membership is not required.
