Airport land tax dispute delays review under grazing valuation

The town seeks 180 acres classified as grazing land taxed at 2 dollars per acre with a one third real market value basis. Property owners certified 6 dollars per acre value. some assessments under 2 dollars noted. A 30 day waiting period started December 9 with court review possible soon. town attorney Elio Romero urged action and requested two new appraisers be appointed by Judge McIntosh.

Thieves Hit Ranchos Firm

Thieves struck the Ran chaos Trading Post owned by George Sahl on Santa Fe Road Monday night and took about 10 bottles of liquor and several cigarette cartons. State Policeman Ted Drennan lifted fingerprints from the shattered liquor shelf after breaking a glass door.

CAP selects new director and staff for Taos CAP

The Tuesday meeting outlined the new director will appoint the remaining CAP staff including an area development officer two apprentices and a secretary. The executive committee reserves power to veto personnel decisions. Mayor Vigil sought the top job but the screening subcommittee nudged him toward it with Angel Gomez's cooperation. Craig Vincent said Gomez was asked to view the director’s role in light of his acting executive duties with CAP. The subcommittee tried to secure a one year government leave for Gomez, which was not granted, though not all qualifications were met.
