No room at jail for DWI
Taos police could not book Henry Vargas for his fifth DWI because the county jail had no room. The 24 capacity jail was to hold only 18 town prisoners, forcing Taos officers to keep Vargas in the police station’s exercise room until 6 a.m. The county seeks to reduce jail population to 13. The town pays about 20 thousand dollars annually for jail use. the contract renews Dec. 31.

Three Dixon men charged after Taos shoplifting arrest
Dixon trio released on bond from Taos County jail after being arrested for a shoplifting incident at El Padrino's drive up window on December 4. Joe Aguilar, 19, faces aggravated assault with a firearm. Anthony R. Valdez, 33, and Johnny Sanchez, 25, charged with shoplifting under $100. Victim Felix Martinez says a gun was pointed. They were chased to Espanola, stopped at a checkpoint, and returned to jail. Aguilar has a preliminary hearing set for January 5 before Magistrate Betty Gonzales.
