Anaya cited no new developments on the Taos bypass during a recent briefing. Local officials pressed for progress after last summer’s study failed to yield a location, with Anaya noting uncertainty about future consideration and potential outcomes.
In under five minutes the Town Council unanimously approved an ordinance adding about 220 acres to town boundaries and changing zoning from residential agricultural to single family residential. The measure also rezoned 19 acres to commercial and 14 acres to urban residential, a formal map change following October approvals for annexation. Property owner Mel Weimer attended, noting plans for a two acre lot buffer between existing five acre parcels and the new one acre lots.
Correction counselor David E. Rael will lead the Taos County Community Corrections Program replacing Tony Martinez who resigned. Director Walter Vigil noted 18 applicants for the post.
A brief snowstorm dumped about four inches in two hours on Taos on Tuesday, causing traffic tie ups and early school dismissals. Taos Ski Valley reported 62 inches of snow with more falling, while roads were plowed by afternoon and forecasts warned of continued snow and very cold temperatures in the mountains through Wednesday.
County officials will delay five school bus route improvements amid a feud between commissioners over bids linked to relatives. Taos Gravel Products and Gonzales Sand and Gravel were the low bidders on four roads, while San Cristobal Road bid favored Gonzales Sand and Gravel. The dispute centers on potential conflicts of interest and the county’s obligation to award to the lowest bidder.
