Taos County Chooses Jail Management After Dispute
Taos County commissioners on November 29 settled on management by administrators and staff of the Taos Detention Center. The decision ends a weeks long fight sparked by Chair Rebecca Parraz pushing a San Miguel County contract, while jail administrator Charlene Tsoodle Marcus and County Manager Robert Dale Morrison urged keeping options with Santa Fe County and MTC. The panel noted current inmate placement is split between San Miguel and Santa Fe facilities, with Santa Fe costing $50 per inmate daily and San Miguel $45, plus San Miguel offers free inmate transportation. The commission also moved to assign one transportation officer to the sheriff and keep the other at the Taos facility amid overtime concerns.
