Sign commission to hear requests on town sign code

Six businesses have notices before the sign commission requesting variances and time extensions to meet the new ordinance limiting sign size and style. Hearings are set for Monday with Showalter and other town officials noting about 12 percent noncompliance and efforts to enforce before an appeals path through Planning and Zoning and Town Council.

Trial date for Dr. Robert George postponed in Taos case

The Arroyo Seco physician Dr. Robert George faces a postponed Taos District Court trial after a switch of lawyers and judges. George, charged with two counts of battery on a police officer and three counts of escape, had the trial moved to Raton but new attorney William C. Marchiando seeks a new judge after disqualifying the assigned judge. Another judge will be appointed and a new date set.

Indictments list theft and assault charges in Taos area

Indicted individuals face varied charges from receiving stolen skis to aggravated battery and assault. The list includes Aly Joshua and Thaddeus Gardner for receiving stolen goods from Terry's Sports, Ricardo Medina attacked with a knife, Raymond Cortez accused of assaulting a crowd with a long firearm, Wilfred Ortiz linked to a stolen 1964 Chevrolet, Earl Montoya charged with larceny of bronze art, Roger Arnold with two stolen vehicles, and Clarence Lurber for issuing a worthless check at Taos stores.

Fire damages Gibson's store after burst of flames
