Tigers Fall to Santa Fe Demons 64 49 in District 2-AAA

Taos High School trailed by halftime and collapsed in the second half as Santa Fe’s defense forced 23 turnovers and poured in 20 points in the third period to pull away for a 64-49 loss. Taos coach Leeland Abreu lamented conditioning and poor man-to-man coverage, citing fast break guards Lloyd Duran Carlos Miera and Steve Trujillo as sparks. Abreu pledged improvement while noting the Tigers' youth and inexperience. Santa Fe’s Bobby Ortiz scored 25, Al Armendariz praised by rookies, and the Demons led 54-27 after three quarters.

Panthers Suffer Weekend Losses To Santa Rosa And St. Kate’s

Penasco Panthers were beaten 81-58 by Santa Rosa and 81-56 by St. Catherine’s in District 2-AA games. Santa Rosa’s Peter Moore, 69 inches tall, scored 32 and blocked four shots early, while guards Marcus and Burban added 20 each. Penasco’s Gerald Romero struggled, and St. Kate’s pressure defense caused a rough start, with Johnson 27, Kail 21, Lucero 17 leading the winners.

New Taos policeman joins force after Army duty

Joseph Hammer of Ranchos de Taos was appointed a Taos patrolman last Friday. A U S Army honor and security guard at the White House, he is a 1969 Central Catholic High School graduate. His Taos Police Commission approved the hire in late August 1972 to fill the Eutimia Archuleta vacancy. He begins a 190 hour training program with on the job work and courses at the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy in Santa Fe.
