Taos school board opposes homeless shelter near schools
At the Taos School Board meeting on November 16 the board voted 4-2 to oppose a proposed temporary homeless shelter for ten people near Taos Elementary and Enos Garcia Elementary, Yaxche School, and a church gym offer. Proponents argued housing instability and unemployment drive homelessness, while opponents cited safety concerns for children. The other item, a state budget surplus, remains unresolved with plans to study it at a January session.
