Taos seventh grader held in detention over school threat case
A Taos Middle School student, José Rivera, 14, was ordered detained after a detention hearing on four felony counts including aggravated assault on a school employee with a deadly weapon and unlawful carrying of a weapon on school grounds. Rivera appeared in restraints as authorities cited a knife, a dummy grenade, and a note threatening to use a bomb. The school was evacuated and lockdown enforced while officers searched for explosives.

Fire devastates Carson area home. elderly man airlifted
Taos firefighters responded to a morning blaze on Petaca Road near the Carson post office. Jim Brinker, in his 80s, was rescued from a pickup and flown by Lifeguard helicopter after the structure collapsed. Propane and oxygen bottles were found as crews battled the fully engulfed home.

Two extricated from vehicle after rollover
Firefighters helped two men trapped when a Dodge Colt rolled onto its passenger side along Blueberry Hill Road Sunday. Both men were alert and conscious. one was flown by helicopter to a hospital. State Police investigated the 6 p.m. single-vehicle crash 200 yards north of the Upper Las Colonias Road intersection.

Indicted driver faced over fatal DWI crash in Taos County
Amarnda Martinez, 26, of Taos, was indicted by a Taos County grand jury on one count of homicide by vehicle and one count of causing great bodily harm by vehicle tied to a July 14 crash on State Road 518 that killed Levi Salazar and injured Raquel Medina. State Police said Martinez admitted drinking about five beers and being buzzed. A second passenger, Dominic Romero, faced tampering with evidence charges. his case was dismissed pending grand jury action.
