Fernandez Faces Additional Jail Escape Charge At Taos

Claudio Pinkie Fernandez, held on murder in Taos County Jail, faces an additional indictment for jail escape after an Aug. 15 breakout. The district attorney seeks transfer to a state penitentiary until trial. Public defender Tony Lopez, after a procedural dispute, will contest the transfer motion citing safety and legal questions. no hearing date was set as of Aug. 29. The motion claims Fernandez is dangerous with a gun described as a toy pistol with rifle parts.

Court to Hear Cases of Accused Rapists in Taos

Taos District Court faces motions in a Tape case as defense seeks a psychiatric evaluation of 19 year old Mark Salazar and disclosure of polygraph and crime lab results. Fellow defendant Arthur Montoya, previously guilty of a similar offense, awaits appearance as prosecutors push to revoke probation. Montoya is in Taos County Jail awaiting action.

Town and Merchants Work on Sign Code Enforcement

The Town and Merchants Association coordinate a step by step approach to enforce the sign code. Town administrator Bill Sisneros says enforcement continues with individual variances, while attorney Mel Eaves negotiates for clients whose signs do not conform. About 70 businesses remain noncompliant as 13 letters have been sent since July with six more planned. four already complied and six more are in process. Chevron, Holmes Chevron, and ACE Chevron have updated signs, while Kentucky Fried Chicken replaced its bucket sign months ago. Rudolph Driskill says he protested the changes and urged a pause in replacements during talks.

Burglary At Trujillo Residence Sees Reward Offered

Crimestoppers report details two break ins at Richard C. Trujillo's Canon home over the past year. Nov 15, 1977 burglars damaged a door and took power tools. Feb 27 entrants used the garage and left with a table saw. A $100 reward is offered for information leading to arrest and indictment, with anonymity guaranteed.
