Mrs. Dwire's Rites Held At First Presbyterian Church

Funeral services for Mrs. Carroll Dwire 85 were held August 22 at the First Presbyterian Church. She died August 1 in Albuquerque. Burial followed at Sierra Vista Cemetery. Survivors include husband Carroll Dwire, Albuquerque. son Thomas Tarleton. daughter Mrs. Charles Flox. sister Mrs. Clara Dawson. six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Her long life began February 10, 1884, with early years on the family ranch near Eagle Nest and marriages to Henry Wallace Tarleton and Carroll Dwire.

Eligio Pacheco Funeral Services Held in Chamisal

Eligio Pacheco died August 21 at Holy Cross Hospital at age 76 and funeral services were conducted August 23 at Chamisal Catholic Church with Fr Thomas Wilkenson presiding. Burial followed at Chamisal Cemetery. Rosary was held August 22 at San Martin Chapel and at the family home in Chamisal. Pallbearers included Emima Lopez Mickey Cordova Johnny Lopez David Pacheco Sonny Lopez and Guillermo Martinez. He is survived by his wife Patricio Pacheco a son Manuel Pacheco three daughters Mrs Juanita Martinez Mrs Emily Abeyta and Miss Maria Pacheco and his father Silvanio Pacheco. Funeral arrangements were by Garcia Funeral Home.

Federal spending in Taos County tops $5 million

Newly released figures by Congressman Thomas G Morris show Taos County received about $4.97 million in federal spending for 1967 88 with agricultural programs totaling over $2 million and economic development over $1 million. Categories include Agricultural Research Service Extension Service Soil Conservation Forest Service and Commerce Administration programs plus Health Education and Welfare education grants and rural health efforts. The total excludes Community Action Program funding run by OFO.

Rabies Clinic Set for Sept 7 at Animal Shelter

The Animal Shelter schedules a rabies vaccination clinic on Saturday Sept 7 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at $2 per animal. Dr. Robert Winters notes recent positive rabies cases in the area and asks dog owners to vaccinate as required by state law. Owners with vaccinations within the past year need not re vaccinate until the current certificate expires.

Taos Woman Fined for Improper Refuse Disposal

Municipal Judge Joe C. Mon toya on Aug 22 levied a 50 dollar fine against Mrs Fay Fuller of Taos for improper disposal of refuse. She faced charges for leaving garbage on the Town Clerk's doorstep on Aug 9. Taos Policeman Jose Montoya filed the complaint. Fuller pled no contest per attorney R Howard Branden burg.

Olonia Receives Six Months In Santa Fe Penitentiary

Pen Term for Olonia District Judge C R McIntosh sentences 22 year old Man tel Olonia of Taos to six months in the Santa Fe State Penitentiary and four and a half years on adult probation. Olonia pled guilty to breaking and entering Cantu Hardware on Santa Fe Road. Danny Montoya escaped jail June 24 and remains at large. Coca, also involved, was later sentenced to one to five years for burglary. Assistant district attorney Sanchez says no escape charges filed.

Church Sets Film On Billy Sunday

A documentary about evangelist Billy Sunday will screen at Canon Brethren Church Sunday at 8 p.m. The film covers his life from youth to major league baseball, conversion, popular tabernacles, and his anti liquor crusade, using photos tintypes and color scenes.
