Taos Town Council OKs 8.5 million in industrial revenue bonds to remodel Holy Cross Hospital into an 80 bed intermediate care nursing home and build a new 45 bed acute care hospital on a 9.8 acre Paseo Sur site. Project support comes from Taos Health Systems, Taos County Commission, and local business leaders.
Florentino Cisneros received two years probation after pleading guilty to aiding the escape of Daniel and Gene Martinez, indicted for the Christmas Day shooting death of Virgil Ross in San Luis Colorado. He must testify when called, report any contact attempts by the Martinez brothers, and stay under supervision for one year of the two. The Martinez brothers face separate murder trials set for December.
State Police charged Colorado man Randall Hessing, 21, with careless driving after a Friday Aug 48 wreck two miles east of the Raton bypass. His vehicle left the road and overturned into an embankment, injuring three passengers: James Guy II of Columbus Ohio, James McCarron of Charleston West Virginia, and Jason Jurkowich of Pensacola Florida. Guy suffered neck injuries Jurkowich a lacerated arm abrasions and a concussion McCarron a bloody nose. They were treated and released at Holy Cross Hospital.
Michasl Romero of Las Colonias is to stand trial in District Court for murder of his wife at the family home. The 36 year old appears charged with the death on a date in open indictment following a May 20 grand jury finding in Taos County.
Montoya submitted a resignation effective Friday August 26 and will serve as an aide to the Taos County administrator Tom Frujillo. No replacement has been hired yet. Montoya previously held the Taos County manager post.
Taos municipal schools distributed the national Excellence in Education report to all teachers urging implementation. Superintendent Leontia Serna urged reading the recommendations and sharing progress with parents as enrollment rises and campus upgrades continue, including a new Taos Elementary library and Taos High PE building under way.
Sheriff Fespe Cordova announced that people urinating in public will be prosecuted. He urged residents to report offenders with license numbers, warn that violators face up to a $100 fine, and said Albuquerque police will cooperate.
