Court day emotional as Edwards sentenced

Richard Edwards pleaded guilty but mentally ill to second degree murder for the May 1986 drowning of Richard Dicky Vigil in the Rio Pueblo near Rockwall. Judge Joseph Caldwell sentenced him to seven years, with actual time likely around two years and a half due to good time and custody conditions.

Ramming appeals fraud case in New Mexico court

John Ramming’s appeal to the New Mexico Court of Appeals challenges a summary affirmance of his 18 counts of fraud racketeering and conspiracy. Two Die In Taos Canyon Motorcycle Crash

July 30 crash on SR 64 at mile 205 in Taos Canyon left two riders dead. Kathy Griego, 20, of Ranchos de Taos, died before Lifeguard could reach the scene. George Gutierrez, 26, formerly of Taos, died later at UNMH. Neither wore helmets. bike veered off left, into bushes, found face down in Rio Fernando. Taos bypass recommendation awaits highway approval

The final recommendation on the Taos bypass will not be released until the Highway Department approves it. Environmental staff sent the recommendation to department chief Larry Larranaga on Tuesday. A large packet of Taos hearing testimony and written comments is available for public viewing at the Harwood Library.
