She receives 33778.59 in a settlement approved by District Judge Lee Vesely, with each side paying its own attorney fees. Assistant Supt. Texas woman crashes into landed craft at Taos Airport

Elizabeth Medary of Fort Worth was landing at Taos Municipal Airport when her single engine Bellanca struck Vern Schwab’s Cessna, causing a cartwheel and crash. Medary remains in stable condition at Holy Cross Hospital. FAA to investigate the incident.

Song for New Mexico's 75th Anniversary Performed in Taos

Frank V. Garcia and Los Mariachia de Taos premiered a commemorative song at Taos Fiestas honoring New Mexico's 75th anniversary and plan another performance at the Santa Fe Fiesta. Costilla unveils 20 year plan for Amalia ski area

Miracle Mountain Inc owners of Rio Costilla Ski Area outline a 20 year plan adding seven lifts to ten, an 18 hole golf course and 320 acre development meeting state standards. Water supply and wastewater handling are noted as key early concerns with four five year phases. A hotel site near Costilla is eyed by Sagebrush Inn owner Ken Blair. Taos County authorized concept approval July 29.

Twining seeks public hearing on sewer flow increase

The New Mexico Water Quality Control Commission will hear on Aug 18 if Twining Water and Sanitation District may double the Rio Hondo stream flow measurement. The plan, rejected July 6 by the Environmental Improvement Division, hinges on phosphorus and particulates loading. Attorney Grove Burnett warns against expanding discharge. Twining counters the river is clean and supports higher flow.

Twining District Adds Eight Mils To Tax Burden

El Prado may also levy an eight mil increase to fund roads maintenance. The Twining District will total 21.787 mils in November, up from 10.787, with about $267 more per year on a $100,000 home. County official Carmen Medina notes El Prado Water and Sanitation District plans a similar levy. Funds will pay district bonded debt and road upkeep in roughly 10 miles of district roads. Taos County adds another three mils systemwide.

Population forecast for Taos County and New Mexico

Researchers at New Mexico State University project Taos County will reach 21 590 residents by 2020 from a 1980 Census count of 19 456. Statewide NM population could approach 2.5 million by 2020, up from 1.3 million in 1980, with rural counties like Cibola Guadalupe De Baca and Harding likely to continue losing residents.

Hoak In ICU In Critical Yet Stable Condition

Death ruled death by own action in Taos area

Francis Garcia, 40, died from a self inflicted gunshot wound assessed by Deputy Medical Investigator Ruben Martinez. Garcia was found at his La Cordillera home by relatives early Sunday, with no apparent note left. Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. Jesus Nagaren Church in Ranchos de Taos de Terey.

Allsup's Set To Rise At North Pueblo Road Site

Construction on a new Allsup's convenience store is ready to begin within two to three weeks at the Nor th Pueblo Road intersection near Kachina Lodge. The former Chevron station site is being leveled as Wie lawn planning department officials note four building permits with an estimated value linked to the Pew construction project.
