Taos grand jury oversight shifts after judges recuse

Judges Peggy Nelson and Sam Sanchez recused from involvement in the citizen initiated Taos County grand jury prompting New Mexico Supreme Court to appoint a supervisor. Judge Rules Salerno Properties Guilty on 266 Town Code Counts

Municipal Court Judge Richard Chavez found Tom Worrell's Salerno Properties, Inc. guilty on 266 counts of violating the town Land Use Development Code for work without an approved Certificate of Appropriateness on a Historic District reconstrucion at 225 Camino de la Placita across from Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. The fines total nearly $50,000.

Civic leader Archuleta dies at 68

Archuleta Arturo Fred Archuleta known as Canario died April 5 at Presbyterian Hospital Albuquerque after a lengthy illness. The 68 year old businessman and community leader ran Gulf and Texaco stations and owned El Taosofio Restaurant and El Taoseio Furniture. He also served as detention center director and bus contractor. His family notes his love of community and business.

First charter class chosen for Taos Charter School

About 20 parents crowded the Taos town council chambers on Friday April 7 to hear who would be selected for the new Taos Charter School opening this fall. Parent Lynn Becheler Romero aided her two daughters’ bid, noting public funding and site management by parents teachers and the community. She cited Wisconsin charter experiences as inspiring, describing improved student engagement and focused morning curricula.
