New Mexico approves $3.5 billion budget in eight day session

The eight day special session ends with a $3.5 billion spending plan for New Mexico backed by Sen. Carlos Cisneros. The budget includes $98 million for education, a 6.25 percent teacher raise, $8.5 million for full day kindergarten, and $3.2 million for early literacy. A $600 million 10 year school construction bonding plan addresses crumbling buildings. The package adds $54 million for current operations, including Medicaid and prisons, while parks receive $4.3 million to avert closures. Governor Johnson can veto or sign by April 12.
