AAA Chairman Hooks announced new 1948-49 marketing year rules on excess tobacco. No prepayment of penalties. penalties 16 cents a pound deducted by warehousemen on each excess farm lot. Excess harvest disqualifies farmers from price support. County aims to complete measurements by June 12 to aid overplanted producers.

Lawrence W Ashby Named Secretary Of Tabor Merchants

Lawrence W. Ashby, 26, a Navy veteran and UNC commerce graduate from Memphis, Tenn, will become executive secretary of the Tabor City Merchants Association. He will assume duties in June, filling the post vacated after Hubert B. Davis left about three months ago.

Three Tabor Scouts to Travel to New Mexico

Three Tabor City senior scouts will depart Wilmington on June 15 for a three week vacation that includes a stay at the Philmont Scout Ranch in Raton New Mexico. The travelers are Billy Rogers W R Burroughs Jr and Charles Hodges, the only troop in the council sending three scouts.

Two Tabor Boys on Legion Squad

Two Tabor City boys Doc Fowler Jr and Burmie Stevens are on the Columbus County American Legion baseball team this season. Fowler is a reserve left fielder expected to see lots of service while Stevens is the ace relief pitcher. Stevens played on this year’s high school team and both played for the Rinkey Dinks and Knot Hole Gang nine.
